Jennifer May's Ladies First Jazz Big Band

The Ladies First Jazz Big Band is a 16-pc. all-female group formed in 2002 by Award Winning bassist Jennifer May and is directed by Jennie Jones (Alto Saxophonist and Vocalist). The Big Band had its roots in a six piece ensemble started in 1994, which continues to perform as the Ladies First Jazz Combo.  The Ladies First Jazz Big Band was formed to celebrate Women's History Month with a tribute concert to female jazz performers, which became an annual event, with the band performing their 14th annual concert in March of 2016.  The band has won Buffalo Music Awards Best Jazz Band, WNY and nominated for Artvoice's Best of Buffalo Awards numerous times and the All WNY music awards. Ladies First Jazz performs public and private venues in Buffalo and the surrounding areas. Past performances include: The Chautauqua Institute Amphitheater; The Ciminelli Concert Hall; The Strong Museum in Rochester; Tralf Music Hall, Riviera Theatre, Lewiston Arts Festival, The M&T Noontime Summer Concert Series and the Montante Cultural Center.
