My Cousin Tone'

My Cousin Tone’ began eight years ago devoted to bringing a mix of jazz classics from an era

when Blue Note, Prestige, Verve, and Riverside all produced a collection of classic jazz tunes

that will live on forever. In addition, the band intersperses their performances with memorable

jazz vocal standards. The band began under the mentorship of two jazz legends in Dick Griffo

and Jim Kurzdorfer. Dick Griffo, who passed away in 2012, toured with the Woody Herman

Orchestra and performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Jim Kurzdorfer, who passed

away in 2014, was the legendary founding bass player for Spyro Gyra and an instrumental music

teacher for 30 years. The band consists of Karen Ragusa on bass, Andy Peruzzini on trumpet,

Jim Matteliano on piano/keyboards, Tim Martin on alto/baritone saxophones, Pete Dauphin on

trombone, Bill Basil on drums, Tony Zambito on percussion, and Mary McMahon on vocals. The

band performs regionally throughout WNY. In the 2014 JazzBuffalo Readers & Fan Poll, My

Cousin Tone’ was voted for Most Memorable Jazz Performance of the Year. The band is excited

to kick off the Lewiston Jazz Festival on the main stage in August, 2016. Visit the band’s
