2025 Carol Calato Scholarship Winner Announced
We are so proud to announce that Anthony LaPaglia, a standout senior from Frontier High School, has been awarded the $1,000 Carol Calato Jazz Festival Scholarship!
Anthony is a dedicated Jazz and Classical Double Bassist, who has been studying with esteemed musicians like Brett Shurtliffe (Associate Principal Bassit, Buffalo Philharmonic), Bill Staebell, and Kieran Hanlon. His musical journey is rich with performances in All-County, Area All-State, and NYSSMA All State Jazz ensembles, most recently, he performed the Koussevitzky Double Bass Concerto with his school's Symphonic Orchestra.
In addition to bass, Anthony plays electric bass and guitar, and has contributed his talents to Frontier's Chorus, Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Drama Club productions. His academic dedication is equally impressive, earning him High Honors and multiple prestigious awards, including the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award.
Anthony graduated in June and continues to pursue his passion for jazz and music education at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Another big round of applause for this talented young artist and his continued contributions to the WNY music community!
